Social Initiatives

To endow with the overall development of our students, we at IMS Unison University feel that our students must be equally apprised of their duties and responsibilities to manage social problems and evolve as socially responsible citizens.

A small initiative in this direction is SEVARTH Club- The University Social Responsibility and Community Engagement Club. The initiative is as per the New Education Policy, all the universities should foster community outreach and engagement among students, teachers, and all the stakeholders. SEVARTH Club aims to make students aware and empathise with the sufferings of the poor, marginalised, and underprivileged sections of society for sustainable and inclusive development.

The SEVARTH Club primarily focuses on the below-mentioned agendas:

  • SDG 2: Tackling the immediate and underlying causes of malnutrition. (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, 2030)
  • SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages.
  • SDG 15: Life on Land.

Activities

1. Village Adoption

The purpose of the Village Adoption Activity was to educate and inform the university students about the socioeconomic characteristics of rural communities and the state of sustainable resource use. Along with this, the activity aimed to shift perspectives and aspirations, priorities, and innovative efforts of rural communities (SHGs) to enable and inspire the community to engage in self-help and sustainable development.

2. Skill Development

To reach the rural masses, train them, and address the lack of skilled workforce in the country, IMS Unison University aimed to make a difference in enhancing the self-employability of the youth and the entire employment scenario of the country through this program.

3. Spreading awareness

To make adults and children (residing in the Bhagwan Pur Gram panchayat) aware and condition them to promote anti-plastic behaviour for sustainable development. A Plastic Free Drive was organised on 19th February 2022.

4. Tree Plantation

To increase the green area and improve the environment, trees were planted in Salaan Gaon and other Gaons.

5. Expedition

No plastic awareness campaign was conducted in all four villages to promote anti-plastic behaviour. The purpose of the expedition was to collect plastic waste materials on the route from IMS Unison University to Salaan Gaon, covering around 2.5 km.

6. Cloth Donation Drive

The drive was a collaborative endeavour with GOONJ NGO in its "Daan Utsav". (2nd – 13th October 2022.) To make deprived and underprivileged members feel valued members of our community and help them to rise above the difficult circumstances of their lives.

The School Of Liberal Arts organised an awareness visit to NIEPVD (DIVYANGJAN)

On 3rd December 2021 to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disability. The students at NIEPVD, along with SoLA performed Cultural Activities. The Officiating Director, Mr. Kamalbir Singh Jaggi, the Professors and Associate Professors warmly welcomed IMS students. Mr. Kamalbir Singh Jaggi presented the bouquet and honoured the Associate Dean Professor Sujaan Singh Negi as the chief guest for the event.

The School of Law organised 'A Legal Aid Camp' in Johri Goan, Dehradun.

A total of 20 issues were reported by the villagers pertaining to social, legal & civil matters.

Kuchipudi Dance Performance

The students and faculty members of IMS Unison University were treated to a mesmerising Kuchipudi dance performance by Ms. Bhavana Reddy. The young South Indian dancer, who is the daughter of erstwhile Kuchipudi dancers and Padmabhushans Raja Radha Reddy and Kaushalya Reddy, performed in the university premises as part of the Spic Macay campaign. Bhawana is also the recipient of this year’s Sangeet Natak Akademi Yuva Puraskar.

Bhawana Reddy, true to her lineage and skills, illustrated to the young audience, presents the nuances of classical Indian dancing. She then went on to explain through various hand gestures and classical dance moves how dance rhythms are created to render a beautiful story through the art of dance and music. She simultaneously performed various traditional dance sequences which are popular in the Kuchipudi.

She then concluded her performance with the famous ‘Tandava’ ballet depicting Lord Krishna. The Chancellor, Dr. M.P Jain and the Vice Chancellor, Dr. R.K. Pandey, presented Bhawana Reddy, her mother and other accompanying musicians with a shawl for their spellbinding performance. The event then concluded with a vote of thanks by Registrar Mr B.B Pant.

Spic Macay (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) is a non-political nationwide voluntary movement that organises programmes of classical music and dance, folk arts, crafts, yog, classic cinema screenings, heritage walks, etc. inside school and college campuses throughout the world to make students more aware about Indian and world heritage.

The performances were judged by Faculty members from different Schools.

Gotipua Dance Performance

IMS Unison University organised a Gotipua Dance performance by the Konark Natya Mandap group on February 4th, in collaboration with SPIC Macay. SPIC Macay is a non-profit voluntary organisation dedicated to promoting awareness of Indian culture in educational institutions throughout India. The programme started with welcoming the Dance group on the University campus. Their magnificent performance captivated the audience’s attention. Gotipua is an ancient temple dance form in the state of Odisha. This dance form is performed only by boys aged between 7 to 11 years, who dress as women to praise Lord Jagannath and Krishna.

Qutubi Brothers – Qawwali Performance

IMS Unison University organised a Qawwali Recital by Qutubi Brothers, in collaboration with SPIC Macay. The programme started by formally welcoming the artists to the University campus. Their magnificent performance captivated the attention of all the students and faculty members. The performing artists sang a mix of Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi songs to constitute the qawwali repertoire.
