SPIC MACAY Event – Kathak Dance

Ms. Gauri Diwakar, a classical Kathak dancer performed Kathak at IMS UNISON University on 27 february 2020. A student of Pt. Birju Maharaj ji, Gauri Diwakar is an empanelled artist with Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

 

Gauri Diwakar is passing her extensive classical knowledge to her students at Gauri Diwakar Sanskriti Foundation.

 

Gauri started her Kathak performance with Teen Taal in 16 Matra, paying her regards with hymns of worship to Lord Shiva.

 

Gauri then gave a presentation of Thaat, and Aamad. She quizzed the students on the representations of dance, by asking what she just performed. The students answered promptly with, "it's a Carpenter Bee (Bhanvra) and a flower!" Then they answered the next one with Lord Krishna. The next question was to decipher the poses of moon, hair and mridang. The audience and students

beagn wild guesses, and when she repeated the poses of Damru, they could rightly answer with Lord Shiva.

 

Gauri moved pace with Bhava stage with a Dhrut Gati Thumri, " Neeri Bharaj Gayin Panghat ko." As a part of her worldwide Kathak tours, the concluding performance was of Vande Mataram.

 

The event was attended by students and faculty from all the schools of the University. Among the dignitaries who attended the function were the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gautam Sinha; the

Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ravikesh Srivastav; the Registrar, Col. Pranav Kumar; the Dean, Student’s Affairs, Prof. K Ajay Singh and the Deans of all Schools of the university.
