Book Lovers Meet & Exhibition

The School of Liberal Arts (SOLA) in association with Central Library organized Book Lovers Meet and Book Exhibition followed by Book Donation Drive on 13th and 14th September 2022. This day is celebrated to inspire book lover to honor reading and literature. Mr. Subash Pant, a retired Senior Scientist FRI and a prolific Hindi writer was invited to deliver a lecture on the importance of Books in human life. He is a senior retired Scientist of Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education. He is the founder president of Vatayan Natya Sanstha and also the founder of Sanvedena Sahitya Sanstha.

The event started with Sarasvati Vandana offered by the students. Then, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, Prof. Madhu Prabhakaran welcomed all the dignitaries, delegates, faculty and the students. While addressing the gathering, the Chancellor of the University, Dr Gurdeep Singh, outlined that reading a book is like practicing yoga and meditation since it gives concentration to the mind. “Put your smartphones and other electronics devices aside and pick up a book instead” he advised. Further, he requested the students and the faculties to visit the library and read books.

The Vice Chancellor, Brigadier (Dr.) M Srinivasan inspired the students by stating that reading would inculcate curiosity in the mind of readers.

The chief guest and keynote speaker, Mr. Subhash Pant, addressed the students and said reading cultivates us into better human-beings. He also shared his experience of writing about the social realities. He encouraged them by saying that books and pens are our real friends. He further added that as time passes books, we owned becomes rare. While technology is appreciated for its novelty books are appreciated for their antiquity.

 A student of BA (Hons), Isha Kansal recited a sentimental poem, ‘Ye khat Lahore se aya h’ on this occasion. Saloni and Vaghisha anchored the program. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vandana Chauhan, Assistant Professor, School of Liberal Arts.

Soon after commencement of Book Lovers Meet, the Chancellor, along with the Vice- Chancellor and the Deans, inaugurated the Book Exhibition by cutting the ribbon. The students and the faculty from different schools participated in the exhibition with full vigor and enthusiasm. Along with the Book Exhibition event, they even largely participated and contributed for Book Donation Drive, yet another initiative by School of Liberal Arts.
