Guest Lecture On - “Climate Justice: National and International Perspectives "

School of Law organized a Guest Lecture (Online) on the topic of “Climate Justice: National and International Perspectives "' 

The lecture was addressed by Dr. Varinder Singh, Assistant Professor (law), Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus, Jalandhar (Punjab). 

He presented a comprehensive picture of environmental justice by analyzing and elucidating various aspects of the environment, environmental degradation, and environmental justice. He reflected on the historical origin of the concept of environmental justice and various national and international issues and principles regulating it such as the doctrine of Precautionary Principle, public trust, polluter pays principle, and other principles laid down in various international conferences such as the Stockholm Declaration, Rio summit, and Rio+20 Conference.  

He also emphasized the Indian traditional environmental jurisprudence governing environmental protection laws in India. He gave a Multidimensional view of environmental justice by focusing on Fundamental rights, preamble, and directive principles of state policy laid down in the Constitution of India pertaining to the environment and its protection.

He concluded his session by encouraging the citizens to be active participants in this movement for environmental protection and improvement.

The session was attended by the faculty members and students at the School of Law. It ended up on a high note with a question-answer session.
