Guest Lecture on Photography Organized by SOMC

A special guest lecture on Photography was organized by the School of Mass Communication on September 26, 2019. Mr. Uma Shankar Bahuguna, a very senior and renowned Uttarakhand based photojournalist was the resource person for the event.

The lecture began with an introduction on the subject of Photography as an art by the HOD Dr. Sushil Rai. Taking to the stage, Mr. Uma Shankar Bahuguna then proceeded to introduce himself and his work to the students in detail. He explained key concepts in Photography like Editing, Cutting, Dodging and Burning and incorporating concepts like Rule of Thirds while clicking photographs for various events and competitions. He demonstrated how Composition in Photography works and techniques involved while using a DSLR camera. He further explained the need to practice clicking pictures which evoke harmony and is eye-catching for the viewer.

Mr Bahuguna urged the students to have patience and accept criticism. This, he said not only helped one grow as a photographer but also help gain a different perspective.

The highly interactive workshop then culminated with a question and answer session where budding photographers cleared their doubts. Overall, it was an enriching experience for all students who wish to join the highly lucrative Photography industry.
