The School of Mass Communication recently hosted an engaging two-day Comic Journalism Workshop, led by Mr. Sharad Sharma, a renowned cartoonist and founder of World Comics India. On Day 1, students were introduced to the power of grassroots storytelling through comics. They learned how visual narratives can simplify complex issues, amplify unheard voices, and generate social impact. The day was filled with hands-on activities, from sketching panels to framing real-life stories, fostering creativity and meaningful discussions.
Day 2 focused on refining the students’ work through personalized mentoring sessions with Mr. Sharma. Participants received constructive feedback on various aspects such as narrative flow, panel structure, character development, and visual clarity. This guidance allowed them to transform their initial ideas into polished and compelling stories.
The workshop concluded with an exhibition of the completed comic strips, which showcased a diverse range of themes and storytelling styles. The display garnered appreciation from the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, faculty members, and peers, who celebrated the students’ creativity and their thoughtful engagement with the principles of grassroots comic journalism.
