    SOMC Holds Extempore Competition

In an endeavor to encourage public speaking and communication skills, the School of Mass Communication (SOMC) conducted an intradepartmental Extempore Speech Competition on January 29, 2019. Students from both BAJMC and MAJMC participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. Diverse topics like: ‘Are scores a good measure of intelligence’?, Social Media: A blessing or a curse; Should Cellphones be banned in colleges?, Should political parties include Climate Change as an issue in their policies?, #metoo movement in India, Biopics in Bollywood, Should the budget for space program in India be invested into poverty alleviation?, Beef Ban in India, Women Empowerment etc. were given to the students. Each student was given 1 minute to think about the topic and 4 minutes to speak at the podium on the issues based on the selected topic. The participants succeeded in elucidating their arguments and opinions with facts and figures. Through this activity, on one hand, the students were able to test their knowledge and on the other, they learnt how to express their thoughts and speak in public platforms.

The event then proceeded with the declaration of results. The winners and participants were congratulated for their excellent performances. The day then concluded with a discussion on extempore practices by the faculty members present. The students expressed keenness to participate in such events in the future.
